Archie is a delightful, very naughty 10 month old wire fox terrier. Cheeky bugger and very handsome. He is currently in Spain.
Watch him being taken for a walk by the kennel’s resident rottweiler.
Our volunteers in Valladoid, Spain contacted us about a wire fox terrier who was very poorly in the infamous Valladolid dog pound, their the people who’ve helped us get Romeo, Juliet, Eva, Monty, Carol, Tony, Archie and Duke out of the killing station. They wanted to get the sick dog out but needed our help to pay for the pound fee and the vet fees.
Of course we agreed to step in. He was taken out of the pound and a kind lady called Paola agreed to take him and care for him for as long as necessary.
He adapted well to their other two dogs, and Bertie gradually became part of the family. At one vet’s visit, we confirmed that he has cataracts, due to old age. He could see practically nothing at night.
When taken from the kill station, Bertie had a cold (the few nights he spent there were below zero temperatures) and was treated but his health started to deteriorate. He had difficulty breathing, became lethargic, his temperature fell to 35ºC.
Paola took him to the vet, but he presented a huge lung infection that had turned into pneumonia. He was dehydrated, hypothermic and also presented a liver condition and a huge heart murmur.
They managed to stabilise him at the clinic and he spent New Year’s Eve at home, returning to the clinic the next morning.
Sadly after getting better, he got worse again, no longer being able to eat. He passed away at the beginning of January 2014.
We don’t know anything about his past life and how he came to be abandoned, and ot all our rescue stories end as we would like them to – we wanted more for Bertie – but we are grateful we were able to make his final time surrounded by people that loved and cared for him. Take care sweet man, we were privileged to be part of your story
If dogs could speak, some could tell a tale or two. Clark Kent lived on the Spanish streets for a while and ended up living near a petrol station, eventually one of our kind volunteers managed to catch him and look after him until he was ready to come to the UK. He is now fostered in Cornwall living with two Lakeland Terriers.
Clark is approximately 5 and a lovely, cuddly and very handsome boy. Despite the past neglect, he still loves people.
He loves to be tickled, cuddled and loved. He sleeps in his own bed, and uses the dog door to go out for toilet trips if he needs to.
Clark Kent had a broken pelvis in the past, and as a result he can only manage a gentle 30 – 40 minute stroll but he enjoys two walks a day.
He is good with most dogs and happy to be included in their games. Once settled he is fine to leave at home for short periods of time.
Clark has medical problems that are managed and not stopping him from living a comfortable life. He has daily eye drops, Propalin syrup 3 x a day to prevent urinary leakage. He’s on a Royal Canine special urinary condition diet and for his skin he requires a bath with a special product once a week.
He therefore requires a very special family, which will give him the love and care he deserves so much.
He is a fantastic dog – are you his family? If so getting in touch, Clark is waiting (in a phone box) for you. Please download a questionnaire: TERRIERSOS-Homing-Questionnaire

This is the lovely Miss Kathy. Our sweet Kathy ended up in a killing station in Hellin, Spain – abandoned, alone and scared. We were told about her by several volunteers in Spain. And well, we said YES – save this little poppit. Well, she was pulled from that hell hole – and went into foster with Mary Morgan.
Well, you would think that would be the end of her troubles – but no, sadly she had pyometra (womb infection) – and needed emergency surgery. The poor girl was thin, malnourished and had to go through surgery. We almost lost her – but these are tough little dogs and she knew that the future had something good in store for her – so she made it. She stayed with her wonderful foster family and they have done a wonderful job with her.
She came to the UK – and is in foster in London. And this is what the foster says:
Kathy is estimated at 8 years old – but we do not think so. She is energetic, fun and loves life. She definitely has the spring in her step of a younger dog. Kathy is a happy little dog ….the past is the past and the future is bright and she knows it. She loves going for walks, she loves meeting people (all people!) – she greets you like you have never been greeted – she wakes you up by jumping on you and giving you a million kisses. She is loyal, and follows you everywhere. She is a quick learner and has mastered new commands with ease (and cheese !)
She travels well in the car, can be left for short periods, she walks well on lead (unless there is something furry or feathery – then she is all terrier and wants to hunt!). She is fine with dogs and people – she does sometimes bark at dogs when on lead – this is to get their attention – she just wants to meet them.
She could live with another dog (male) or on her own – she just wants love and to give it back. She steals socks and slippers and hides them in her basket – and she has also been known to take a fleece jacket into the garden – she is a real gem and will be your best friend.
Due to the surgery – she has been left with incontinence issues – she is currently on medication (Propaline) and it has helped her. She still has little leaks – generally when she sleeps or if she is very excited. Just a little leak – but we are hoping that with time this will go away too. It is only a small amount – how many of us have coughed or sneezed and had a little accident? Please don’t overlook Kathy for this little problem – it is not her fault
If you want to know more – or you are smitten and want to adopt this girl – then please download and fill out an application via https://www.terriersos.com/download-our-adoption-form/ . We look forward to hearing from you.
This is the handsome Duke (Duque) – he is a terrier cross – the people at Propatas asked if we could help – he had been left on his own on a finca. His owner no longer wanted him and had left him on that piece of land – he was going to bring him to the perrera – where he would have died. We were asked to step in and give this poor boy a chance at a proper life. He was in a complete state – frightened, thin , matted, dirty – and Linda Edwards got him groomed and fed and she is helping him settle.
Duke is young – born in 2012 – he was very wary of dogs – at first. Now he is fine with the calm females – and is ok with the males but introductions will need to be managed. He loves people and wants to be with them – despite all the abuse and neglect – he is ready and willing to love again. Can you be that person?
Duke has spent too long in kennels – all our fosters have male dogs – and we are looking for a foster home or adoptive home that is dog free or has a calm female.
Duke has his bags packed and is ready to travel – neutered, microchipped, passport, vaccinations, negative for Leish – all he needs now is a home to call his own.
Vaccinated, neutered & chipped. Year of birth: 2012
coat: mainly white
Children: age 10 +
Interested in adopting Duke? Please download a questionnaire: TERRIERSOS-Homing-Questionnaire
If you can’t adopt right now but would like to make sure other dogs are helped like Duke was – please donate via Paypal
This is Duke, left alone on a piece of land – before and after photos of his grooming – he was badly matted and dirty
Lucky to be alive
