Sally – Mini Chihuahua Terrier Mix – reserved

This lovely little lady has arrived to the UK. She  is in foster in Norfolk
 
What her foster says:  Sally (aka Lucy Locket, Cookie, Little one and Snuggle Donut) is a delight. She is approx 6 years of age, about 3 kilos in weight and very very sweet. She is fundamentally a lap dog and all she wants is to be with you and cuddle – she has to sleep in bed with you – and will snuggle up next to you with her head resting on your shoulder. She is such a cutie – she can be left for short periods, travels well in car, fine with dogs and people (apparently also ok with cats) She has suffered an injury at some point – so has a damaged eye (she can see from it but it is damaged) – her legs have also suffered at some point and although she has gained a lot of strength she will never be a big walker (more carried around). I am usually not one for the little dogs – but this girl has won me over and we may be wearing matching outfits soon.
 
 

 

Her background:

This sweet girl was found with our fox terrier called Harry – she was abandoned on the street and found him and the two were firm friends.  Sadly Sally had a few medical problems – and needed a bit more support before she could travel – she is ready to come to the Uk as a foster or adoption.  

At some point Sally was hit – and she has damage to her front leg and eye – she can see – but the eye is slightly sunken in – her leg is getting stronger but she will need this monitored going forward.  She is ready to travel – and really needs her own family

She is approx 6 years old – only 3 kilos – and is fine with all dogs and cats!  We really want her to have a fabulous home where she can be adored and cared for – if you feel this is you – please complete a Homing Questionnaire and contact us 

Gryff – Welsh Terrier – Sanctuary

Update 2025

Sadly Gryff has found the move to a home environment very difficult and despite all our best efforts he was not able to settle.  We will be doing a new description for him and his needs – but at the moment he has gone back to his routine and what he is comfortable with.  We do not stop trying to find a home for a dog – but sometimes they needs are very specific and it will take more time.  Gryff really needs an older person, living on their own and that is happy for daily walks and pottering in the garden – Gryff is very much a one person kind of boy.  He does suffer with separation anxiety and will howl – so that would need to be considered – so neighbours may not appreciate being serenaded – it is not what we hoped for Gryff but we will stand by him and keep trying – he is worth it.

Update – January 2024

Sadly Gryff has returned to rescue.  He was adopted and much loved.  He was a wonderful companion but sadly his owner had a life altering condition and was no longer able to properly care for him.  He has returned to rescue as we give life time back up for all our dogs.  You can see his write up from before below.  We do know he is a lovely dog – he walked well on lead, travelled well in car, could be left – a well behaved chap and really just needs the right home.  He stills needs to be an only dog in the home (he is fine with other dogs and has friends outside) – he is a cuddly dog and just enjoys life.  His condition is much better managed and we have got the medication level working for him.  He does like to dig – typical terrier – so that needs to be understood and you must like help digging holes in your garden or furniture!  he can be easily diverted – and put his energies into something more acceptable.

Please say Hello to our new Terrier SOS family member- this is the lovely Gryff

Gryff came to us as his family’s circumstances have changed – and this was proving to be too much for him to adapt and adjust to.  His family care for him very much – but realised they could no longer offer Gryff the calm environment that he desperately needs.  This has not been an easy decision for them- and we at rescue felt for them – but agreed that he needed a different home environment.

Gryff is a lovely Welsh Terrier – he is 5 years old, fully vaccinated and with full vet history.  Gryff originates from the UK and we have his full history.  He is now in kennels in Norfolk and is adjusting very well. 

Gryff has been diagnosed with epilepsy and is on medication for this.  He manages well, loves his food and treats and chews.  He is a very affable chap.  On walks, he can be reactive on lead to other dogs.  He has lived with dogs, but he would cope much better as an only dog and having humans to himself and he will only be rehomed to a dog free house.

He enjoys his walks, he enjoys people company, he travels well in the car, He has been clipped on a regular basis (he can be sensitive over his feet and face – so any prospective groomer would need to be patient and kind).  

He loves being with his family, will follow you round, get involved in your activities and also help landscape your garden.  He can be left for short periods – but fundamentally would like someone around most of the time.

Gryff has developed a few ‘quirks’ – some very typical of the Welsh Terrier breed and some not.  HOwever, we will discuss further with any suitable applicant.  Any family would need to visit him in NOrfolk at least a couple of times prior to adoption.

He cannot live with cats, small furries or young children.

Freddy – Wire Fox Terrier

Update January 2023

Freddy has settled well in kennels, he has a nice routine and loves the ladies.  We have gotten to know Freddy and he is turning into a delightful dog.  He likes his people , he loves his toys, and he loves his treats and chews.  He has met a lot of new people and is always happy to meet them.  Freddy could go to the right home – this home would be a calm, child free and most importantly a dog free home.  Freddy HATES ALL OTHER DOGS.  So a home where he could have his own garden to potter around in and his own family to live with would be ideal.  He is not the dog that goes for walks or trips to the pub – if he sees another dog – the red mist descends.  He has had problems with grooming – but now we can wash and scissor him – except his face – but he is a work in progress

Freddy came to the U.K. from Romania with another rescue – he was placed in a flat in a busy town centre – and unfortunately he was finding it difficult to cope.  He was becoming anxious and his behaviour with other dogs was escalating.  As he was in a flat – the family were finding it hard to manage his needs and walking was becoming very difficult.

The rescue approached us as they did not have a suitable solution for him.  We agreed to take him and we moved him to kennels in NOrfolk.

Freddy is approx 5 years old – he really is a rural type dog.  He loves his people and his open spaces – but he cannot manage busy lives- he also hates dogs.  He really cannot be trusted around other dogs.

As he is doing well with the volunteers – we would consider a home that has a suitable garden  and has no intention of walking him.  We will give full support to any prospective family but it is with the understanding his world remains small

He did have some issues with his former home – he did not like being groomed, could be possessive over food – but we have not had any of these issues with him in kennels.

We are working on his anxiety levels – and as he calms and realises the world is not a threatening place – he will slowly improve his behaviour around other dogs.

He will turn into the wonderful dog we know he is – but it will require a lot of support.

Pickles – Fox terrier – on hold

We have Pickles rehoming on hold as we work through some resource guarding – he is a lovely dog for people he likes – but with strangers – he is not wanting to share.  So we need to help him and this means we are unable to rehome him yet.  We will hopefully soon be willing to work with a family if they are prepared to visit over a period of time.  He just needs support – he is a lovely dog just an unsure one

 

HE came to us via a family that could not offer him the help he needed.  He is a delightful fox terrier – he is loved but sadly he was finding out that a busy, city life does not suit him.  He can come to the UK for the right family.

We would consider a foster family as well – he would be better in a calmer more rural environment, with his own garden / orchard 

We will discuss his requirements with the right applicant, he is a lovely boy and will need lots of time to adjust to new surroundings. (NO small furries, no children, could possibly live with another dog)
 
We will need his foster/home to have a very calm, quiet home. He currently struggles in his current situation and will become reactive when he becomes stressed.
 
You will need to follow our guidance completely so we can set this boy up to become happy and stress free.

Foxy Gryffin – Wire Fox Terrier – Sanctuary

Update – Aug 2021 – Foxy’s rehoming has been put on Hold – we are rearranging his current situation so we can have him work with a behaviourist on a more regular basis – we will update when we feel he may be ready.  

This is the wonderful Foxy Gryffin – he is a one year old male wire fox terrier that has just become the newest member of the Terrier SOS family.

He was signed over to the perrera with the right to euthanise immediately.  Our wonderful volunteers stepped in, and he is now safe in kennels in Spain.

He is still a puppy – and so will need a terrier experienced family – he is fun, happy and energetic – he just needs to learn to manage that energy.  Foxy Gryffin has arrived in the UK and is currently in kennels in Norfolk.  He is a dog that has had no guidance and is very excitable and we are working with a Behaviourist helping him calm himself and also learn some boundaries.  As an example, we manage to have him calm, but you get up – he starts bouncing on the sofa, or leaps on your toes to have a nibble – so we have to go back to getting him calm.  We are managing to do this, and we can get him to keep four paws on the floor.  So we are looking for a family that will LISTEN to us and will LISTEN to our behaviourist.  Because of this we will place priorities on families in the South East – they would need to come and spend time with us and Foxy G.  He is the G Man – and a great boy – he is rocket man and will need a family that will keep him on the earth

We are looking for a Terrier experienced family that has time and patience to help him make the transition to ‘pet’.  He is smart, a fast learner and really up for anything.  He now needs a home that will see the ‘diamond in the rough’ put the work in continuing to help him find his boundaries
