Charly Airedale Terrier

Aged 5, Charly is a lovely Airedale boy looking for a new home. Due to a change of circumstances, his owners no longer had the time to look after him and he recently came into our care. He is currently in foster in France and will be coming to the UK in mid-August. Applications for him are now being accepted.

We  are now getting to know him – he is a lovely affectionate super bright dog – his former family left him in the garage at night and garden during the day – the poor boy has been deprived of life! He is very enthusiastic, loves playing with dogs and people, will need some help when out on lead as he wants to meet all the dogs and will bark to get to them. Basically he needs a family that loves airedales and has the time for him. Could that be you?

Charly is a very friendly dog, who could live with another larger dog. He is good with older children but not keen at all on cats. He is neutered and up to date with his vaccinations.

Please read our FAQs & fill in a TerrierSOSQuestionnaireMay2015.

Children: 10+ – no small furries – no cats.

Sidney Fox Terrier

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”sidney”]
We have some dogs in longer term foster – one such dog is the delightful Sidney. Quite a few people have been following his story – he was the subject of the epic journey to Spain to pick him up – and many followed Brian’s blog and his journey to the UK. We were originally led to believe that he had a broken leg that had set improperly. He was brought to the Orthopaedic specialist and it became apparent that his pelvis had been smashed at some point – and he was suffering from Legge Perthes disease. Through the generous donations of our supporters, we were able to operate on one side of his hip – and then he stayed in foster (the lovely Brian and Sandy) until he could heal well enough to have the other side done. The original plan was to operate on both legs, get him stable and then put him up for rehoming. He has just visited the specialist again and sadly she does not wish to operate on his right leg as he relies heavily on this for all movement with his left leg a little shorter and weaker. His hip joint on the right although affected by Perthes Disease is considerably more stable than the left side was and the acetableum (the hip cup) is not damaged as the left had been. Her thoughts are to continue to improve movement on the left bearing in mind this side will always be weak but at least is no longer causing him considerable pain.

Operating on his right side is at present not suitable or necessary but may in the future if the femoral head deteriorates further with the Perthes disease – that is an unknown quantity as he may or may not get worse and if he does it may be slow onset or rapid. He will need to be on pain killers (Metacam and Tramadol) possibly for the rest of his life and certainly in varying quantities depending on how he develops over the years.

Those too will potentially cause him other issues which again may shorten his life BUT better a shortened life with less pain than a longer and more painful existence. As an added point, Sidney needs to have short walks and gentle exercise despite his intentions to run everywhere at 100 miles an hour so a more sedate home with an older dog or a dog with similar needs to him. He may seem to want to run all day but the reality is he shouldn’t as he will make himself very sore and will need more drugs to settle down his joints which in turn will have a greater affect on his organs etc. Sid will tell you he wants to race about but he shouldn’t He seems to enjoy his walks and he is on a 40 foot line which he trundles about towing along. He does express an interest in chasing other dogs but is very happy to sniff the hedges and wander about.

So we have decided Sidney needs a sedate home – and one that understands his condition and help him understand that although he is a terrier – he needs to take it easy! And as we all know – how hard it is to tell a terrier what to do! This is not how we wanted it to go for him – but he still deserves a second chance and we hope to find him the perfect home.

He is about 5, spayed and vaccinated.  No cats, small furries or children under 10. Current location: Lincolnshire. Interested? Please download a TerrierSOSQuestionnaireMay2015. Many thanks.

Bryton

Here is the amazing Bryton – he is 7 years old and a very well mannered boy. He is a cross – we are still debating with what! But he does have the heart of a terrier – and is a bright boy that loves the great outdoors. He is fine with other dogs – somewhat indifferent to them in his own home. He has been ok with cats – but is starting to show more interest in them…so we are not sure if he will be good with them long term. He is fine with people, and very polite.

He minds his manners and is a very calm and gentle boy. The reality for Bryton is that he needs an outdoor lifestyle. He seems almost depressed indoors – but when he is out in the great wide smelly world – he really comes into his own. Nose to the ground, feeling the wind in his wirey beard, wagging his bum and stumpy tail. He looks to you for guidance – so would need a person that has dog experience and will help him understand what is expected of him. He should go to a home that is prepared to work his brain – he is a bright boy that loves learning and living. He has been fine in most situations, but does suffer mild car sickness. But just a fantastic boy and will make a super companion.

He is microchipped, passported, fully vaccinated and neutered.  Currently fostered in Essex. Preferably no cats or small furries.  Children: 10+

Tara Spanish Greyhound

This is the beautiful Tara – Terrier SOS saved her from a horrible fate as a hunting dog in Spain – she is in foster in Nottinghamshire and proving to be a delightful dog.

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”tara”]

She is approx 6 years old, loves cuddles, running on the beach and being your best companion.

She is a blond Galga – that wears her heart on her face. She is clean in the house, travels well in the car and loves to have her bursts of energy and then lounge snuggled next to you on the sofa. She does need further work on her lead – she can be bossy with other dogs – but we think in the right home – she will blossom.

Preferably a home with Sighthound experience. Can you open your heart to her?

Please download an application form here: TerrierSOSQuestionnaireMay2015

Tara is a female galga, vaccinated, chipped & neutered.  DOB: 01/06/2008

Children: age 10 + – Sorry no small furries or cats.

The beautiful Miss Maya is being fostered in Hertfordshire. A few words from her foster family: “She is the most gentle and kind dog you would ever wish to meet, whose tail never stops wagging!  Maya has been on a trip to see the ducks, and then went to the pet shop. Maya was very good and even found some treats..She was a bit puzzled when she saw her reflection in the mirror but soon realised it was not her twin..or is it just a girl thing!”

She came to us from the same Killing Station as Nando and Wendy – we are always full and the volunteers asked us to help – and we did not have the space.  But they made one last plea – she had overstayed and they needed her kennel for dogs arriving on Monday…..so what could we do.  We decided to squeeze her in.  Look at those eyes – how can we not try and give this dog a chance at a loved life.

Maya is approx 5 years old, she is sweet – a long legged jack russell cross – good with people and dogs. Can she be the dog for you?

Vaccinated, neutered & chipped.

Children: age 10 +

Sorry no small furries.
