Kathy in Spain

This is the lovely Miss Kathy. Our sweet Kathy ended up in a killing station in Hellin, Spain – abandoned, alone and scared. We were told about her by several volunteers in Spain. And well, we said YES – save this little poppit. Well, she was pulled from that hell hole – and went into foster with Mary Morgan.

Well, you would think that would be the end of her troubles – but no, sadly she had pyometra (womb infection) – and needed emergency surgery. The poor girl was thin, malnourished and had to go through surgery. We almost lost her – but these are tough little dogs and she knew that the future had something good in store for her – so she made it. She stayed with her wonderful foster family and they have done a wonderful job with her.

She came to the UK – and is in foster in London. And this is what the foster says:

Kathy is estimated at 8 years old – but we do not think so. She is energetic, fun and loves life. She definitely has the spring in her step of a younger dog. Kathy is a happy little dog ….the past is the past and the future is bright and she knows it. She loves going for walks, she loves meeting people (all people!) – she greets you like you have never been greeted – she wakes you up by jumping on you and giving you a million kisses. She is loyal, and follows you everywhere. She is a quick learner and has mastered new commands with ease (and cheese !)

She travels well in the car, can be left for short periods, she walks well on lead (unless there is something furry or feathery – then she is all terrier and wants to hunt!). She is fine with dogs and people – she does sometimes bark at dogs when on lead – this is to get their attention – she just wants to meet them.

She could live with another dog (male) or on her own – she just wants love and to give it back. She steals socks and slippers and hides them in her basket – and she has also been known to take a fleece jacket into the garden – she is a real gem and will be your best friend.

Due to the surgery – she has been left with incontinence issues – she is currently on medication (Propaline) and it has helped her. She still has little leaks – generally when she sleeps or if she is very excited. Just a little leak – but we are hoping that with time this will go away too. It is only a small amount – how many of us have coughed or sneezed and had a little accident? Please don’t overlook Kathy for this little problem – it is not her fault

Bora Jack Russell Parsons Terrier

Bora is an immediately adorable little dog who is now fostered in North London. She slowly comes out of her shell when she gets to know you, but is very shy.

Due to her long legs, incredible ears, with big eyes (as if she wears eyeliner), Bora is stunning, and unique.

She is a very calm dog who could live with another calm dog. Lately she has taken to mouthy play with her foster sister who is a female fox terrier of the same age, but she doesn’t like it too boisterous.

She walks very well on the lead and is somehow house trained, learning to sit, but needs time and reassurance to adjust to her life in the Capital. Loves being near you, on your lap or curled up next to you on the sofa.

In the local park a dog owner called her ‘the supermodel of Jack Russells’ – we think she is super indeed and will make a family whole.

Bora came to us from the South of Spain, Dejan Huella a small rescue we collaborate with asked us if we could take her on. She used to be kept on a finca (countryside acreage) where she was only fed a couple of times a week. She had two puppies, and in desperation she killed and ate one of the chickens she was meant to be guarding. The owner discovered this and decided to get rid of her and the puppies. She could have been shot, thankfully the son brought her and the puppies to a local rescue and the two puppies were adopted. Bora stayed on and Dejan Huella asked us if we could help.

Bora has low level leishmania, a tropical non-contagious disease transmitted to dogs by a tiny sandfly in Mediterranean countries. Leishmaniasis cannot currently be cured, but can be treated. A dog with leishmaniasis can live a happy and healthy life for many years. The usual treatment is with Alopurinol tablets, which are cheap and readily available as they are used for treatment of gout in humans. The sooner the condition is diagnosed, the more successful the treatment is. In Bora’s case the disease was diagnosed in time and thankfully the treatment is working for her and she can lead a normal life. We would pay for the 1st 6 months of treatment after adoption and we really hope it won’t stop people giving her a chance.

She is female, actually a bodeguero terrier, the Spanish equivalent to a Jack Russell, but with longer legs, weighs about seven kilos and born in March 2011.

Carol – fox terrier jack russell mix

Carol has been adopted by her foster family, whist we’re always sorry to lose a foster, we’re very happy for Carol and wish her and her family the best.

This little girl is called Carol, a Jack Russell/Wire terrier cross, abandoned at the perrera with her two puppies. She did have a microchip. The owner was contacted, but said she gave the dog away and wants nothing more to do with her…so in the perrera she went with her puppies. Sadly one puppy has died, the other has gone into another rescue. But Carol did not stand a chance and so we agreed to save her. She is now with the foster family in Greater London.

Described as very terrier like and absolutely needs her new home to have no small furry pets. Other dog friendly and needs cuddles/reassurance in abundance. She has had an extremely tough start in life, with various problems in kennels, but remains strong and loving. A true testament to the tenacious terrier. Born in 2012, she is a very young girl. Seren – female welsh terrier

Seren is a Welsh Terrier bitch, a very young nine years of age and spent her days tied up in a small yard. She is an adorable dog in foster in the UK. Currently residing other dogs, she is learning to be a family dog at last! Agile for her age, but needing love and cuddles in abundance, she does have some issues with food/treat guarding, but these are disappearing rapidly. It will, however, need continued training and she is a quick learner. She has already learned “leave” with a toy. She loves rambles with plenty of time for taking in “smells”. Best as an only dog or alongside a sedate dog.

Seren is ok with other dogs as long as they are respectfull her prioritys are a warm fire a comfy knee and lots of strokes and hugs .

She has now recovered from her opp to get rid of lady bits,has had a haircut and is ready for her forever home.

Reina

Reina is a lovely Fox Cross, currently in foster in UK, having come from the killing station in Murcia. We were only shown a photo of a tiny wirey head stuck between two large pointer type dogs. Like so many, her days were numbered and the likelihood she would ever come out alive was nil. So again, what could we do? We said please take her out of that place! So one of our volunteers did just that! She is lovely – approx 10 kilos, very fun and playful. Dog and people friendly – she will be the best companion you have ever known. All our dogs are a privilege to own – and she is no exception – she is a sweetie!
