Basil

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”basil”]

This young boy was abandoned at a perrera in Badajoz – we were asked to help and reserved him on his final day, before he was due to be put down.  He is young and was paralysed with fear at the pound.  He has recently arrived in the UK and this is what his foster says about him:

“Basil was very quiet at first choosing not to engage with us, preferring to sit at the other end of the room and stay out of the way. He didn’t seek out human contact and was not familiar with any name given.

After a few days and one rather large haircut he was like a new dog, he was beginning to respond to his new name and becoming familiar with the house routine. He even began seeking out human affection, nudging your hand for ear scratches!

Now having spent a few weeks with Basil, I feel we are really seeing his true character. He is a quiet dog, he rarely barks, only when encouraged by our resident dog (naughty Pootle) and only if there happens to be a rather brave cat in the garden.

He loves to watch TV and he really does watch it! I have caught him jumping up on to the cabinet and licking the screen (so funny and no damage done) Basil also likes to people watch, one of his favourite places is sitting on the windowsill watching the world go by.

Basil is a very clean dog, he’s not had one accident in the house. He loves being groomed and will sit still for you to brush him (I think he’d let you do it all day).

Walking Basil is a real pleasure, he doesn’t pull at all (unheard of I know) and off lead he never wanders too far and always comes back when called! (I’m not sure he’s a terrier at all)

Basil’s biggest problem is car sickness, he’s getting better and doesn’t suffer as badly if walked well beforehand but he still nonetheless suffers. On short journeys he drools but longer ones he is actually sick.

You can leave Basil for a few hours, he can be trusted not to chew or get into the bins and has displayed no destructive behaviour towards the house. If however you have a tennis ball or fluffy toy it’s game over!

When Basil gets excited he likes to nibble, no malice intended but he can sometimes forget just how strong and sharp his teeth are. We are working on this and he has improved greatly.

He doesn’t do tricks like paw or sit but he settles really quickly and in every way a happy dog who just wants to be your best friend – I love him to bits!!

Basil likes to sleep in the hallway at night, he will have a cuddle on the bed but then get off and find his own space. He also likes lying on the floor and is happy to not get on the furniture (I always encourage him to come up and have cuddles) Basil also doesn’t beg for food, he will quietly go lie down when it’s your dinner time.

Basil has been eating a dry diet which he loves, he will also eat chicken and cheese.

Really can’t praise this special boy enough, he is in many ways the perfect dog, who ever gets to be his best forever friend really is so very lucky. ”

Please note his former ‘owners’ cut off his tail and part of his ears – thankfully they seem to have healed fine.

After everything he has gone through, this lovely dog deserves a loving family of his own, please download our application form TerrierSOSQuestionnaireMay2015

Lili Female Miniature Schnauzer

after-70 Brinselfie

We have received many applications for Lili in a short time – no new applications for her accepted at this stage – but if Lili brought you here please take the time to look at our other dogs. This delightful doll came from one of the many killing stations in Spain. She had been abandoned by her owner – like so many just before Christmas. Although not strictly a terrier – she melted our hearts – and she is now with a foster in the UK with Terrier SOS rescue.

Lili is a young girl, she is approx 2 years old, she is a Mini Schnauzer and a real cutie. Lili is a fabulous dog – she is housetrained, walks well on lead, has recall (when bonded with you) , she is fine with other dogs out and about. Lili loves to play with her toys, and she will protect your garden from any unwanted birds! She loves being cuddled, having her ears scratched and laying on her back in the sunshine.

Although she is fine with the foster dog, she has shown some signs of jealousy – and will barge the other dog out of the way so she gets all the attention, so we feel a home where she can get all the attention is best.

We cannot say enough wonderful things about this dog so we are looking for an equally wonderful home.

Lili is microchipped, passported, fully vaccinated, and spayed.  She is currently fostered in Dorset.

Beautiful terrier mix Ruby is a young girl, about 2-3 years old, spayed, fully vaccinated, medium size. She was dumped on the street in Romania a while ago, then taken in by somebody, then dumped again when the owner moved abroad and didn’t want her anymore. She was taken on by a small Romanian rescue and has now just arrived in the UK. She is being fostered in Watford, we will have more updates soon for you, but what we can say is that she was happy and friendly from the first minute, and doing zoomies in her new garden.

Ruby is good with dogs and people, friendly with everyone she meets.

Gentle and beautiful, she deserves to finally settle down with a loving family, could it be you?

If you would like to adopt this lovely dog, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Tara Spanish Greyhound

This is the beautiful Tara – Terrier SOS saved her from a horrible fate as a hunting dog in Spain – she is in foster in Nottinghamshire and proving to be a delightful dog.

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”tara”]

She is approx 6 years old, loves cuddles, running on the beach and being your best companion.

She is a blond Galga – that wears her heart on her face. She is clean in the house, travels well in the car and loves to have her bursts of energy and then lounge snuggled next to you on the sofa. She does need further work on her lead – she can be bossy with other dogs – but we think in the right home – she will blossom.

Preferably a home with Sighthound experience. Can you open your heart to her?

Please download an application form here: TerrierSOSQuestionnaireMay2015

Tara is a female galga, vaccinated, chipped & neutered.  DOB: 01/06/2008

Children: age 10 + – Sorry no small furries or cats.

Little Jack young terrier

Let us introduce you to the lovely Little Jack. He was found one morning crying on a volunteer’s doormat. He was in so much pain, had sores all over his body and was thin and hungry. The volunteer asked if we could help – his condition was going to need treatment and there really was no other help for him. So we saw his little face and thought we must help this poor thing.

Jack is young – probably only a year old – he is still very much a puppy. He has Leishmania and has had a new immunotherapy treatment – he is on daily medication, but we are hoping that after his next blood test it will not be needed. The illness has left him with scars and he still has skin problems – and brittle nails. He is on remedies for this and nutritional supplements and we are hoping they will continue to improve.

Because of this – Jack will never be able to walk miles, or do agility – but what he will do is be your best companion, cuddle on the sofa and love you! He needs a quiet home that will let him be himself and play and wiggle his bum. He could live with another dog – but a calm one.

He travels well in the car, is fully vaccinated, has a passport and neutered and although very wary of the world – he does want to have a furever home to call his own.  His foster family thinks he is a delight, interested in Little Jack?
